Manteca boys outpoint Oakdale to stay undefeated in VOL

Manteca High’s boys track and field team came through with another statement win Thursday, soundly beating traditional Valley Oak League power Oakdale, 82-54.

With a narrow victory over defending champion Sierra already under their belt, the 4-0 Buffaloes are in the driver’s seat to capture the title with three conference dual meets remaining.

Meanwhile, Oakdale’s undefeated girls had their way with the Lady Buffaloes, 104-22.

Sprinting standout Jordan Lyons paced the Manteca boys with wins in the 200- and 400-meter dashes. He joined Roland Pacheco, who also had himself a big day, on the winning 4x400 relay.

Pacheco set a personal record of 12 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault to place himself among the Sac-Joaquin Section’s elite. He added second-place points in the 400 behind Lyons.

Donovan Lucas won the 100 and was the runner-up in the 200. Isaiah Cruz claimed both distance events, Daniel Clemons took first in the shot put and Ben Tolman triumphed in the triple jump and placed third in the long.

Sophie Barragan was the Buffalo girls’ top producer with runner-up finishes in the 100 and 200.

Nick Gatehouse was the workhorse for Manteca with wins in the 100, 200 and 400.
Billy Sharmoug chipped in a win in the discus, and Matt Wilkerson was victorious in the long jump.

Manteca sweeps Sonora; varsity boys remain undefeated in VOL

After outlasting rival Sierra last week, Manteca High’s varsity boys track team continued its early-season roll with a 94-51 win over visiting Sonora Thursday.

The undefeated Buffaloes remain tied for first place with Oakdale through three Valley Oak League dual meets.
Manteca’s girls squad, meanwhile, picked up its first win, 58-37.

The Manteca boys had eight different athletes come through with first-place finishes while sweeping three events (200, 400, shot put) and claiming both relay races.

Jordan Lyons paced a sweep in the 400 and was a part of the 200 sweep, finishing second behind Donovan Lucas. Lucas was also the runner-up in the 100-meter dash won by Tylo Both

Isaiah Cruz was second in both the 1,600 and 3,200. Marcus Avila led the way in the 300 hurdles.In the throws, Elijah Surall won the discus and was third in the shot put. Daniel Clemons led the 1-2-3 sweep in the shot, and Carl Chandler took first in the high jump.

Jessy Talarico was the top performer for the Lady Buffaloes. She nearly won four individual events, placing 
second only in the pole vault while prevailing in the 100 hurdles, triple jump and long jump.

Sophie Barragan won the 100 and took second in the 200. Blake Lamoreaux spearheaded a sweep in the 800.

Distance runner Andres Garcia placed first in the mile and half-mile events.
Nate Gatehouse spearheaded a sweep in the 400 and was the runner-up finisher in the 100 and 200. Edger Herrera ended up first, second and third in the 300 hurdles, 1,600 and 110 hurdles, respectively.
Also winning were Carl Chandler (discus), Matt Wilkerson (110 hurdles), Donovan Lucas (long jump), Brandon Santos (high jump) and Billy Sharmoug (shot put).
